A new subdivision is being planned in the Central Area Specific Plan (CASP) area along Boronda Rd. At the August 6, 2024, Council Meeting, the Council approved the tentative map to subdivide a 187-acre lot. Approval of the tentative map is the first step towards development of a new subdivision in Salinas. The proposal includes construction of 1,674 dwelling units which would be a mix of single family and multifamily homes, as well as parks and green space amenities. An affordable housing plan is required as part of the development to comply with the City's Inclusionary Housing Ordinance and requirements in the CASP. This is the first of multiple phases to this project.

The CASP was approved in November 2020 and was the second of three plan areas in the City's Future Growth Area (FGA).

The West Area Specific Plan (WASP) was approved in 2019, and the East Area Specific Plan is in the community engagement phase. The first of many opportunities for the community to engage in the process to create the EASP is scheduled for later this month.
