Street Outreach

SORT.jpg

The City of Salinas Outreach and Response Team (SORT) engages the City of Salinas unhoused population through outreach to build trust and rapport with the unhoused community. The team includes a collaboration with Peer Leaders with lived homeless experience which is necessary to reach individuals who are hesitant to work with service providers.

Existing practices and efforts related to serving encampments: SORT provides engagement (e.g., outreach: actively locating, identifying, and building relationships with unsheltered residents), case management (includes utilizing the coordinated assessment system, conducting initial evaluation, and providing linkage and referrals to supportive programs), and transportation services (to emergency shelters, housing support, and other service appointments) to and from the encampments.
