Commendation for a Field Life Save and Paramedic Accreditation – Firefighter Nijmeddin

Firefighter Jihad Nijmeddin has officially earned his Paramedic Accreditation, authorizing him to provide Advanced Life Support (ALS) care to the residents of Salinas! He not only has completed his accreditation, but also received a prestigious letter of commendation for a field save for the following incident.

Medic Engine 2 responded to a medical emergency in North Salinas, arriving within minutes and they located the patient inside the residence. The patient was unconscious and in respiratory and cardiac arrest. ME2 personnel immediately began resuscitation efforts, including CPR and ventilations, and applied mechanical CPR using the LUCAS Device. Multiple defibrillations were administered, and within minutes, the patient regained a pulse.

Firefighter/Paramedic Nijmeddin and Captain/Paramedic Thomas maintained patient care during transport. Remarkably, the patient became alert, spoke with EMS personnel, and even made jokes inside the ambulance. Care was successfully transferred to Emergency Room staff with the patient awake and responsive.

This incident is a testament to the high-quality advanced life support EMS care provided by Medic Engine 2 and the seamless teamwork between dispatch, fire response, EMS transport, and hospital staff! The Salinas Fire Department is proud to serve the community and @SalinasFirefighters are glad to make difference during critical moments.
