Overview
Salinas Fire with its six divisions: Administration, Emergency Medical Services, Hazmat, Prevention, Training and Suppression, is committed to providing the highest level of fire, emergency medical services and life safety protection for the over 163,000 residents of Salinas. This is accomplished by a comprehensive system of protecting life, property and the environment through cost effective, efficient and sustainable prevention efforts and emergency response.
Being one of the largest cities and fire departments within the County of Monterey, Salinas Fire runs over approximately 15,000 calls a year, consists of 98 sworn public safety employees, and is a 24/365 paid department that provides service from six fire stations strategically placed throughout the city.
The minimum on-duty daily staffing operates with twenty-three full time personnel, per shift, staffing six Advanced Life Support Paramedic Engines, two ladder trucks and a technical/specialist level Hazardous Materials Response Unit.
Salinas FD also provides contracted fire protection for the unincorporated communities of Bolsa Knolls, Country Club Meadows, and San Juan Estates. Mutual Aid is provided to other unincorporated jurisdictions and municipalities as requested as well, bringing the total area served by SFD to approximately 35 square miles.
